God's Architect

I am really finding a lot on Robert Hughes from his series Visions in Space. It's all architecture, which is not really my forte. (I watched one about Mies van der Rohe this weekend and that was definitely not my forte) However, we could all stand to learn a little something about buildings, don't you think? So from Hitler's architect, to God's architect we will go....

Yes, I agree. I remember watching the documentary about how Hitler wanted to use buildings to promote his ideology. It was fascinating and it made me re-look at the power of buildings, what they represent and how they shape the social interactions in a space. Enjoyed looking at your videos and being reminded of the value of architecture as an art form.

yes, i liked the one about hitler's architect too. (that is further down in the blog) however....this guy....he really IS a sexy architect, considering he was so pious.
but i think that it was the nun's school that really impressed me the most. that took my breath away, it was so simple and elegant....holy. i felt it in the space....that's excellent, feeling emotion in a space.

as an addendum to my last comment....hitler's architect, when asked what he wanted the people inside his building to feel, said, 'nothing.' i think that that is telling as well, the lack of emotion/feeling inside those buildings versus gaudi's. speer's designs were more about power. the difference in intention is, as well interesting to me.
